Best International Restaurants In Lisbon

There’s no denying that Portuguese food is amazing. Typical dishes like cozida, a meat stew, and francesina, a saucy sandwich, are great, and so is Portuguese seafood, but there are times when you need something just a little different and not quite so hearty as traditional Portuguese dishes tend to be.

Thankfully there are lots of international restaurants in Lisbon. So many, in fact, you can turn eating out in Lisbon into a culinary world tour if you feel inclined. You’ll be able to pick and choose where you want to eat and have food from a different country every day of the week if you want to.

As you eat your way around the world, leave your belongings at a secure luggage storage in Lisbon so you can focus on food and not your suitcase.

Which Are The Best International Restaurants In Lisbon?

By the time you’ve dined in all of the following restaurants in Lisbon, you’ll be worldly-wise about food. Lisbon really does have an international food scene, so get ready to tuck into dishes from countries as far-flung as France is to Thailand.

A Cevicheria

Drop by A Cevicheria for a meal, and your tastebuds will be in for a thrilling time.  Not only do they serve Peruvian food at A Cevicheria, but they also serve Peruvian food with an Asian twist. The eye-catching décor, or one particular feature of it, is a must-see in itself. You can’t help but spot the enormous octopus hanging from the ceiling, it’s become a Lisbon tourist attraction in its own right, but once you have a pisco sour in front of you, you’ll even forget about that.

At A Cevicheria, the menu has been constructed around the well-known traditional Peruvian dishes of ceviche, causa, and tacos. Don’t expect ordinary because it won’t be. Choose a taco, and it’ll be filled with tuna loin tartare, togarashi, and tobiko. Go for a ceviche, and you won’t know whether to have the salmon with dragon fruit or the tuna and foie gras with beetroot and raspberry. When you go to eat here, treat it as a food adventure rather than just dinner, and you won’t be in for such a culinary shock.

Come Prima

Located on the corner of a quiet back street in Lisbon center, you may need to search a little to find this Italian restaurant, but the food you get will be reward enough. The premises are decorated in a simple polished wood and painted wall rustic style that’s both comfortable and reminiscent of Italy.

At Come Prima, everything on the menu is prepared fresh in-house, so you can gorge on first-class pasta dishes topped with an endless choice of delicious sauces, Neapolitan-style pizza baked in a wood-fired oven, and meat and fish grilled to perfection. Save room for the tiramisu. It’s worth going to this restaurant just for that.

Azia

If you’re someone who can’t go more than three days without eating dumplings, then you need to go to Azia. Azia is a Pan-Asian restaurant in Lisbon that specializes in noodles and dumplings. The premises of Azia are neither posh nor sophisticated but rather more down-to-earth and functional.

At Azia, they prepare a vast menu of dishes from China, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, and Thailand, so whichever Asian food rocks your boat, you’ll get some here. The selection of dishes you’ll have to choose from will have your mouth watering, so go hungry and make the most of the reasonable prices.

La Brasserie de l’Entrecote

La Brasserie de l’Entrecote is one restaurant in Lisbon you can cross off your list if you’re a vegetarian. At La Brasserie de l’Entrecote, they serve only one main course, and that’s grilled and sliced entrecote steak. It may sound unusual to have such a small menu, but they’re obviously doing something right as they have a total of four locations scattered around the city.

At La Brasserie de l’Entrecote, the meat is prepared and cooked in a style popular in Paris and comes smothered with a special creamy sauce. They do offer a selection of starters as well as a choice of side dishes to accompany the french fries the meat is always served with.

The Great American Disaster

There is something quite cliché about 1950s-style American diners, but they still continue to grab the attention even though the era has changed. The Great American Disaster takes that cliché style to the max and is decked out in a colorful array of bright red leather banquettes, Formica tables, and the typical black and white check floor. And yes, they play suitable diner-style music too.

While The Great American Disaster may look superficially frivolous and fun, the food is great. If you’re hankering for a big juicy burger, a frothy milkshake, or a coke float, this is where you need to be. You can get a slice of apple pie and ice cream to finish off with too. That’s about as authentic as it gets.

The George

The British are renowned for heading to foreign climes only to open pubs and restaurants serving typical British food. Lisbon hasn’t escaped the anglophile invasion, and there are more than a few bars and restaurants serving fish and chips and a pie with a pint in Lisbon. If you want the best, though, you should head for The George.

The George is a stylish gastropub with a plush pub-like interior and serving staff dressed to look as if they could stand in as extras on an episode of Peaky Blinders. Here they serve classics like beef wellington, fish and chips, and a pimped-up Sunday roast that will fill you up for a week.
